Shawangunk

(pronounced "shaw-gum")

Take my hand and walk with me along this narrow path,
We'll find our ledge and sit awhile as we did in the summer past,
And gaze across the golden carpet of the autumn in the trees,
To the far escarpment of the Shawangunk, mountains of your dreams.
Remember as you sit with me of the day that we were wed,
Of the happiness that we felt and the tears we quietly shed.

Down the path we strolled to the water and the fall,
As you related tales of times that had gone on so many years before,
While watching the water splashing down after it's long and lonely leap,
I made a wish that forever your heart would be mine to keep,
And as the golden sun set slowly spreading shadow in the ravine,
We walked back hand in hand sharing a love so unforseen.

Remember the bright fall day as we watched the Hawk in awe,
And listened to the music of his wings as he soared and soared,
The breath of your beloved mountains whispered through your hair,
Oh, your eyes sparkled so brightly in the pure mountain air.
The time I've spent with you in this place of natural wonder,
Has enriched my soul in so many ways I cannot even number.

Then there was day you took me to your very special place,
Where the river gave you peace and shared your precious grace,
It made me feel so humble that you would deem to take me there,
At the grandeur of the Hudson River I could only stare,
And again the gentle breeze whispered something sweet,
My wish will be eternal, your heart I long to keep.

So again we will walk along the path our hands gently entwined,
We'll find our ledge and sit and while away some time,
And gaze at the blazing carpet of the autumn in the trees,
Far across the valley of the Shawangunk, mountains of your dreams,
I dream that one day in a distant far off time we will sit upon that ledge,
And I will watch the wind kiss you softly, as on the day that we were wed.
